The Ubiquitous Cloche

So what exactly is a cloche anyway?
A cloche is a fancy, close fitting (dome like) hat.

A cloche is ALSO a domed glass resting on a stand.

They seem to be everywhere.

Some have stands like this cutie from Thrifty Decor Chick. (Love the pears!) ( http://thriftydecorchick.blogspot.com/ )

And some are flat like this lovely one from Thrifty Parsonage living. ( http://thriftyparsonageliving.blogspot.com/ )

I wanted to make one of my own so I went to Goodwill to see if I could find something suitable. Somewhere in between the adult diapers and turkey platters I discovered this cheese dome with a stand.

Many times the wood piece below the cheese dome is flat. In a case like this, all you have to do is find a chunky candlestick and glue it to the base for instant height.

I painted the pedestal white. (With the cheapest spray paint I had on hand.) I also switched out the glass dome on top for one that I already had which was a little taller.

This little glass bunny in the basket was from the Salvation Army. (The top lifts off.)

So whether you prefer to call it a "cloche" or "cheese dome on a stand," the fact remains that it is an extremely easy project that looks great.

And you can get fancy, too with what you choose to display. (Chocolate cupcakes, perhaps?)
