Motivation

What motivates you? Especially when you have a large or daunting task? What is the inspiration that gets you moving when you look around your house and it seems as though there are a heck of a lot more "befores" than there are "afters?"

We've been in our home for about 10 years now and almost every room needs to be updated. It can be a little overwhelming at times--especially when you are doing it yourself!

I become motivated by reading other blogs and seeing their finished photos of projects that I haven't tackled yet. Here are some on my (never ending) to do list:

1) The dining room chair slipcover by Miss Mustard Seed. ( http://missmustardseed.blogspot.com/search/label/sewing )

I need to make a slipcover for a chair in our office. The chair is already painted and just waiting for the fabric. And waiting, and waiting...

2) The wooden frame around bathroom mirror by Show & Tell. ( http://showandtell-sausha.blogspot.com/ )

Two of our bathrooms have the giant frame less mirrors that builders install. (So attractive!) I've been wanting to do this for awhile but my fear of (and lack of owning any) power tools has delayed it.

3) The stenciled wall by Isabella and Max Rooms. ( http://isabellaandmaxrooms.blogspot.com/2010/08/stencils-fabulous-stencils.html )

These aren't your Mama's country stencils of the 80's. Today's stencils are more sophisticated with designs and all over patterns. I have a bathroom that is going to be my stenciling guinea pig.

4) The teapot lamp by Vintage Revivals. ( http://vintagerevivals.blogspot.com/2010/10/crafting-with-starswinning-tutorial.html )

I don't drink tea but this teapot lamp is very appealing to me. I really like it and have to make one! I've been collecting items to use over the last few months and now just need to (find someone with a ceramic drill bit) make it.

5) Zero calorie cupcakes by Crafty Avenue. ( http://www.craftyavenue.com/school/articles/entry/9/94 )

The beauty of these cupcakes is that they are fake, faux, not real, permanent, inedible and zero calories because you won't be eating them!

I have to make them someday. They would look great under a glass cake stand or a cloche. The 3 main ingredients are plaster of Paris, a styrofoam ball and spackling. (sounds yummy!)

Now these cupcakes aren't really an update for anything but don't they look fabulous?

Hopefully, I'll be motivated enough to finish these projects in the next few weeks (months). A girl can hope...
