I've been bringing home a number of thrift store bargains over the last few months. And because my house isn't as big as this,

or even this, I needed to get rid of a few things to keep in balance. (I don't want my home to become the neighborhood landfill.)

There are a few different ways to go about getting rid of things: 1) Give Away 2) Throw Away 3) Sell
To focus on #3 (selling) there are a few different options:
a) Garage Sale
b) Craig's List or Ebay
c) Consignment Shop (This is good if you're afraid of strange people coming to your home.)
I have sold a few items through the Home Consignment Center. You just drop off your furniture or home decor item (or jewelry) and wait for a check. You don't have to be the salesperson. The downside is that the fee is 50% but the upside is that the items tend to be priced fairly high so you may make what you want afterall.
Here was one section of the inside of the Home Consignment Center. Furniture was everywhere! This was the most crowded that I had seen it. The salesclerk told me that one of the reasons they were so crowded was because two different people bought mansions fully furnished and didn't like the furniture. Many pieces were new or fairly new. They receive a lot of furniture from model homes, also.

They had some interesting items there. I thought this bicycle clock was a little odd. It definitely looked like something that would be in a model home.

This chair was a monstrosity! It was taller than me. Check out the lion heads. It was one of those things that was so hideous that it became awesome. Imagine it painted and reupholstered. I would have loved to bring it home but the $1,000 price tag was a little out of my budget. Craig's List, anyone? (The Husband would have thought I was nuts to bring it home even if it was free...)

I loved the color of this king sized headboard. It was unbelieveably huge. (Both in size and price!)

The rest of the matching furniture was a little too southwestern for my taste.
(I'm also one of THOSE people who think that disembodied heads (whether human or animal) used in decorating is a little creepy. Just saying....)

Most of the furniture was various shades of brown wood--think of model homes. This white painted headboard was about the only piece that had more of a cottage style.

My favorite item was this white leather ottoman. I could just imagine it in my home full of kids and pets. Practical? Absolutely not. But it was sooo beautiful!
Of course, the whole point was for me to drop off MY items for consignment, not buy more! So the lovely ottoman stayed where it was.
