Very Victorian

Last week I found this reproduction oil painting at Goodwill. It was a little formal and not really my style but I was drawn to it and had to bring it home with me. I didn't know who the artist was or anything about it. The painting was quite big and heavy and the frame was a perfect square. I thought that I could just use the frame for something even if I wasn't going to use the painting. But the more I look at the picture, the more I want to keep it as is. The problem is that it's so traditional looking and my house is not. It reminds me of something that would look perfect hanging in a stately Victorian home. (That's why I'm dedicating this post to some beautiful old Victorian houses.)

I absolutely love this Victorian house. You may recognize it as being the home in the movie, Practical Magic with Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman. It was built for the movie on a beautiful piece of land overlooking a lake. Unfortunately, after the movie finished filming, the house was torn down. (Such a crime!)

To me, THIS house looks like something out of a movie. Beautiful, but with a sinister side.

I absolutely love all the architectural details.

Simply gorgeous historic home in City of Redlands, California.

This cutie seems as though it would be in a tiny little town somewhere.

Some famous "Painted Ladies" in San Francisco. This row of homes was used in the opening shot of the t.v. show that gave the Olsen Twins their big break. And gave the actor, John Stamos serious heartthrob status! (Did anyone ever watch Full House? In reruns?)

There is just something about this painting that is so sweet. So what should I do? Disregard my decorating style and just hang it up?

Or wait until I live in a fancy Victorian. (I've always liked the color pink...)
